Even with a full refund, many Ryanair customers out of pocket
07.01.06
Thousands of Nottingham East Midlands airport customers will be left out of pocket by the cancellation of Ryanair flights, despite the airline's offer of a full refund. Ryanair spokesman Peter Gerrard told Times newspaper that the airline would not pay expenses relating to changes to hotel and car hire bookings made necessary by the flight cancellations. He added that customers who booked travel insurance through Ryanair's website could not expect their insurance policy to cover these costs either.
A delay in the delivery of 4 new Boeing aircraft to Ryanair means the airline has been forced to cut 1200 flights between January and March, affecting an estimated 300,000 passengers and particularly hitting Nottingham East Midlands. Passengers affected by cancellations have been given the option of taking an alternative Ryanair flight to their destination or receiving a full refund that includes the taxes and charges paid on the ticket - but with no compensation for other costs.
One customer told the times: 'I was pretty excited about getting flights for just 29 pence each way, but I soon experienced the flipside of budget airlines when I received an email from Ryanair telling me that I was flying a day earlier than scheduled - no explanations, just a premium rate number for any queries that was always engaged.'
'Luckily my accommodation is flexible but had I faced a charge for amending the booking, it would have been down to me to pay.'
