Passenger numbers up 17% in October

East Midlands Airport reported passenger numbers up by 17% to 448,291 in October, compared to 384,469 in the same month last year. International scheduled passengers rose by 32% year-on-year with domestic scheduled services up by 8%
Palma was the most popular destination with more than 25,000 people travelling to and from the Majorcan capital, followed by Alicante, Dublin and Malaga. Glasgow and Edinburgh were the most popular domestic routes with low cost airlines
East Midlands Airport managing director Penny Coates said: 'The last month in the official summer season of flying for 2006 has shown strong growth in all areas of the business including international scheduled, domestic and inclusive tour and charter traffic to and from the airport.'
'We have announced 12 new routes for the winter period with Ryanair which start in February 2007 and we are also able to offer more exciting long haul destinations including Mombasa in Kenya. We fully expect further growth in passenger numbers during this time.'
