10.02.06
Nottingham East Midlands Airport unveiled a draft master plan covering development at the airport over next 24 years yesterday. The plan proposes a quadrupling freight traffic at the airport and doubling the number of commercial destinations offered. The changes could create 7000 jobs in the next 10 years.
Published at the request of the government, the plan highlights the airport's likely future development. Members of the public will have the chance to view the plans at 11 exhibitions across the region. Consultation on the plans will run until Sunday 14 May.
Airport managing director Penny Coates said: 'We have put together a stringent night control mitigation package and environmental plans to mitigate the impact of doubling the number of flights.' She added that there are no plans to add another runway at the airport.
Members of the public can view plans at venues in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire on dates throughout February and March, as well as at the airport itself. Copies of the draft master plan are also being sent to local authorities.
