Protesters greeted representatives from Nottingham East Midlands Airport as they visited Harborough last week, to speak to people in the town about their master plan.
The airport is in the process of carrying out a consultation into the details of the plan, which sets out how it will develop over the next two decades. Last Friday, representatives from east midlands airport visited the district council offices in Harborough to meet with residents and speak to them about the plan. However, they were met by a group of protesters who gathered near the meeting.
Campaigner Steve Charlish, who is head of campaign group Demand, which wants to see the airport more strictly regulated, said: 'As usual, the roadshows were used as public relations exercises. The community brochure they have given out at these events leaves out the doubling of noise pollution they are forecasting in the coming years.'
The airport has pledged to double the number of jobs on its site to 14,000 in the next decade as well as quadrupling the amount of freight it handles. Campaigners say the expansion of the airport will result in increased noise and pollution over south Leicestershire.
