MP raises Nottingham East Midlands and CAA concerns in Parliament

Edward Garnier, MP for Harborough, has asked the Leader of the House of Commons and fellow East Midlands MP, Geoff Hoon, to provide time for a debate on the CAA's role in the East Midlands. The request follows the CAA dismissal of his complaint about an incident that happened at Nottingham East Midlands Airport on 4 February.
Mr Garnier told the Commons on 3 March that a freigher aeroplane left a wheel mark on the grass beyond the tarmac of the runway as it took off. He also said that the areoplane had then flown very low over Melbourne, a local village. The CAA said this week that they had carried out an investigation and were convinced that he had been 'misinformed' - that the incident did not take place.
The MP is also concerned that the huge increase in flights especially at night referred to in the draft master Plan published by the airport is going to increase the chances of such incidents happeneing again quite apart from severely interfering with his constituents quality of life.
Edward Garnier's question to the Minister is set out below:
Mr Edward Garnier: Will the Leader of the House provide Government time for an early debate on the role of the Civil Aviation Authority in the east midlands? He will know that on 4 February there was an incident at Nottingham East Midlands airport in Leicestershire that the CAA has simply dismissed, despite the fact that information about the incident was provided by a member of the air traffic control staff at the airport.
Is he also aware that the draft master plan produced by NEMA, as it is called, will double the number of night flights and quadruple the amount of freight flown over my constituency between now and 2010? Will he also invite the CAA urgently to look into the recent incident at Great Glen in my constituency last Saturday, when a large lump of ice fell from an aeroplane on to the car of one of my constituents?
Mr Hoon: I know from regular use that Nottingham East Midlands airport is an excellent airport and the expansion that we have seen in recent years has provided a tremendous boost to trade and industry in the east midlands. The honourable and learned Member has raised some serious questions and I know that my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Transport will want to deal with them.
