Record drugs haul at Nottingham East Midlands

Drugs with a street value of £2m were seized at Nottingham East Midlands Airport yesterday. Nearly 50 kgs of the Class A drug had been concealed in the shafts of golf clubs.
Customs officers said it was the largest amount of cocaine ever discovered at the airport. It is the third major drugs haul this month with one consignment being discovered in a set of encyclopaedias.
A spokesman for Customs & Excise said: 'This has been a very significant find for customs - 50 kg is a huge amount of Class A drugs. It sends out a very clear message to drug smugglers that Nottingham East Midlands Airport is not a soft touch. Customs officers here are working hard and, as this haul demonstrates, getting good results.'
